This important Reduction Sale of Tested Friesians from the famous Glenstuart Stud affords breeders ’of the popular Black and Whites an excellent opportunity of acquiring Friesian Females which should prove to be acquisitions to any herd. The Glenstuart Stud has been in the forefront for many years, and is noted for its excellence where type and production are happily combined. For many years formidable show teams from Glenstuart have been paraded at all leading shows in the South Island, and. with remarkable consistency, have won the major honours. Points prizes have been won wherever shown, and included in recent triumphs this coveted honour was annexed at the 1948 Royal Show at Invercargill, where the cream of the South Island disputed premiership. A summary of show awards won during last season’s (1949) circuit reads as follows 10 Championships 6 Reserve Championships 61 First Prizes 45 Second Prizes 15 Third Prizes The Glenstuart Studmasters. while practising the important policy of presenting their cattle before their fellowbreeders and the public generally for show ring competition, have paid due attention to the all-important question of the maintenance and improvement of production, and to this end no expense has been spared in the purchase of herd sires and females for this purpose. The latest acquisition of note was the purchase from Mr L. S. Gallon, of the Tarata Stud, Greytown, of his practically undefeated sire, Tarata Royal Lad (whose photo, appears on the cover of the catalogue). The first appearance of this great Bull in the South was heralded by winning in clear-cut fashion, against all comers, the Royal Show Championship at Invercargill. This sire has been extensively used in the Glenstuart Herd, and associated with him is the Junior Herd Sire, Peveril K.O. Osmond. Ordinary herd test is carried out at Glenstuart, and production figures for this season to and including the month of April will be given at Sale. Herd averages for the 1947-48 and 1948-49 seasons respectively were as follows, 4391 b fat and 4191 b fat THE AUCTIONEERS.
