CONSERVATIVE GAINS
British Borough Council Elections
Rec. 11 p.m. * LONDON, May 12. ' The Conservatives made big gains last night in Britain’s “little general election” for control of 378 provincial borough councils. With 340 results declared, the Conservatives had registered 248 gains and 55 losses against Labour's 110 gains and 184 losses. The Liberals had 15 gains and 31 losses, and Independents 49 gains arid 152 losses. In spite of the swing over in candidates, however, there were few changes in actual control of the councils.
