Motorist's Amazing Escape From Death When Car Cut In Two
NZPA—Copyright SYDNEY, May 11. An amazing escape from death was experienced by an elderly man driving a small car which was cut in two by a semi-trailer truck loaded with 10 tons of steel in the outlying suburb of Sutherland. The truck passed completely over the car, which was divided into two pieces, both of which were flattened and twisted. The truck was also wrecked as the impact dislodged its load. The chassis bent and crumpled, and finally the entire vehicle turned over. The truck driver crawled from the window with difficulty, expecting to find a dead man in the car wreckage, but he was amazed to see the other driver standing in the middle of the road unhurt, directing traffic past the scene of the accident. The car driver was later charged with breaches of the regulations.
