“VICIOUS ATTACKS”
Conditions Of Workers WATERSIDERS PRESS WAGE INCREASES “ Owing to the vicious and unwarranted attacks now being made on the living conditions of the working people and their dependents,” the Dunedin branch of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union decided yesterday to instruct the national president, Mr H. Barnes, and the secretary, Mr T. Hill, to proceed immediately with claims for increased wage rates. The decision was made in the form of a resolution passed at the monthly stop-work meeting of the branch. The resolution also stated that the branch endorsed the action of its national representatives in refusing to accept the decisions of “ those socalled workers’ representatives holding office in the Federation of Labour.” It also expressed complete confidence in the national leaders of the union.
