MELBOURNE WOOL SALES

Rec. 11 p.m. MELBOURNE, May. 11. There was a total clearance of the 7410 bales offered at the Melbourne wool sales today. Competition was keen and widespread with every country anxious to purchase. The market was steadily rising and the series closed at the highest point ever experienced for practically all grades of wool. Competition was strong from the Continent, Britain and Russia at the Sydney wool sale today. Of the 9267 bales of ordinary wool offered. 9143 were sold, plus 180 from previous catalogues. The market ruled verv firm on the previous days improved values. The top price of 1273 d was paid for five bales of greasy merino fleece.
