CROWNING CEREMONY

Pageant At Concert Chamber SCOTTISH QUEEN CARNIVAL With full splendour, as befits royalty, Miss Daphne Baxter was made the Scottish queen at the crowning pageant of the Otago Scottish Council’s queen carnival in the Concert Chamber last night. To a fanfare played by two girl trumpeters, the procession of courtiers, ambassadors, flower girls, train bearers, princesses and the queen elect was led by a knight in full armour into the chamber from a side entrance and on to the stage, where the “Lord High Chancellor,” Mr P. Dawson, who was also the producer, placed the crown on the head of the queen elect. Massed pipe bands and two women’s marching teams added to the spectacle. A touch of humour was provided when several citizens who had taken an active part in raising money for the Scottish hall were “knighted” for their services by the Lord High Chancellor.

After the ceremony items were presented.
