“SHOW PLACE”

Ocean Beach Domain FURTHER DEVELOPMENT PLANNED , The Ocean Beach Domain was becoming one of the show places of the South Island, and when it was further developed it would oust Timaru Beach as the playground of the south, said Mr J. G. Barnes at the annual meeting of the board yesterday afternoon. “The board is making steady progress in the development of the domain. The completion of the tennis courts and bowling green in the area makes them definite assets to the city, and I hope that the board will consider the sealing of part of the Lookout road at St. Kilda shortly,” said Mr J. J. Marlow. “The formation of the tip area will soon provide new playing areas, and I would not be surprised to see teams playing there within two years,” he added. Mr N. D. Anderson asked whether the board was satisfied that a successful approach lane to the beach could be made. Was the entrance to be the present one adjacent to the Life-Saving Club’s pavilion? The chairman, Mr John Wilson, said that the engineer was satisfied that this could be done. Anyone wanting" sand

could obtain it from there when the development was under way. The entrance to the beach would be much as Mr Anderson indicated. Mr W. Rutherford commended the young people of Dunedin for their work in laying down playing areas. He said that it was also gratifying to find that the board had further plans for the development of the area. Ho would like to see a hot "salt water bath constructed somewhere on the domain area. The chairman said that the present price of steel precluded any substantial work being done to prevent erosion on the beach at the St. Clair end of the domain. Mr Wilson was re-elected president for the thirteenth year in succession, and Mr Marlow was appointed treasurer. The board passed a statutory resqlution making levies of £1825 against the Dunedin City Council and £lO5 against the St. Kilda Borough Council. The secretary, Mr F. R. Grindley, reported that the Ocean Grove Domain was now controlled by a domain board of that name.
