WATERSIDERS RESUME
No Penalties Imposed NZPA—Copyright Rec. 11.11 p.m. SYDNEY, May 10. The watersiders resumed work on the Sydney waterfront today without penalty after their unauthorised stopwork meeting yesterday to discuss the Communist Party Dissolution Bill. It was not- known until late calls had been filled whether penalties would be imposed and a wharf stoppage result. Fifty-three ships applied for labour. An acute shortage of night labour has occurred as the liners Strathaird and Chitral, on mail schedules, and the motorship Imperial Star were seriously affected by yesterday’s stoppage and applied for night gangs. The watersiders have not worked a midnight ship for some months and the waterfront’s opinion is that no labour will be available for this shift tonight.
