Australian Power Scheme INTEREST OF DOMINION ENGINEERS PA AUCKLAND, May 10. New Zealand engineers may help in Australia’s greatest hydro-electric scheme—the Snowy River project. Mr E. L. Merigan, associate commissioner for this work, has arrived here to interview engineers who have replied to advertisements in the New Zealand press. He will also inspect hydroelectric works in the North and South Islands. The Snowy River authority will put 12 power stations on the Snowy River and tributaries of the Murray River at a cost of £220,000,000. The first unit is expected to be running in five or six years. “New Zealand hydro-elec-tric works are considered progressive,” Mr Merigan said, “ and I have come to see the general constructions and methods used by your engineers.” Seeking to attract New Zealand engineers to Australia the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Authority is offering salaries higher than are paid here for comparable positions by State and Local Authorities. The new posts being advertised include chief electrical and chief mechanical engineer as well as executive engineering positions. \
