LIFE SAVING FILM

Christchurch Production DISTRIBUTION TO SECONDARY SCHOOLS An educational sound film has been produced in Christchurch as part of a Dominion-wide campaign to reduce the number of drownings. The film, which has been financed partly by the New Zealand Council of the Royal Life Saving Society and partly by a special Government grant, runs for about 20 minutes and it will be screened extensively in the New Zealand postprimary schools. The film is intended to stimulate interest in the society’s work and to establish throughout New Zealand a uniform interpretation of the handbook of instruction, issued by the headquarters of the society in London. The photography was done by Mr Roy Evans, of Christchurch, while Mr Jack Breward, also of Christchurch, was responsible for the script and the training of those who took part in the film. A soundtrack will be added to the film in Australia and then copies will be made from the master film to be sent to London headquarters of the society, the Australian Federal Council of the society in Melbourne, and the National Film Library. If the film is approved by the headquarters of the society, it will be distributed throughout England. Mr R. Wilson Brown, a member of the Otago Cine Club, who saw the silent premiere of the film in Christchurch last week, told the Daily Times that it should be of the greatest instructional value.
