Second Round On Saturday

Once again the Citizens’ Shield competition is causing excitement and among the football-minded public of Oamaru, and the results of next Satur day’s matches will be awaited with interest. The second round will be started and all four senior teams will plaj at me Show Grounds Athletic which improved its position on the ladder from third to second after its defeat of Old Boys last Saturday, is only one point behind Excelsior, and undoubtedly the main interest will be centied in that match. Both teams had comfortable wins last Saturday, and it can be assumed that Athletic will be all out to even the score if possible, after gom» down to Excelsior 9—16 in the first match of the season. Maheno, with its new players, may piove a harder combination for Old Boys to cope with than was the, case on their first meeting at Maheno, but even with such allowances Old Boys should prove supe*,ojV Halvorsen, who has scored consistently in the three matches played, has 23 points to his credit (four conversions and five goals from penalties), while M. Collings has 20 points (seven conversions and two penalties). G. Ovens fills third place with 11 points flhree tries and one conversion). .. .» , G. Ovens, T. Bent, and W- Henderson have each scored three, tries, while S. Mosely, V. Smith, A. Berry, and A. Rainey have scored two each.
