HIGH LAMB VALUES

Large Yardings Forward BURNSIDE STOCK SALE All sections at yesterday's Burnside sale had large yardings, the number of cattle to hand being approximately 400, and again the greater bulk of the stock was of onlv average quality. After last weeks large ‘offering, the trade was unable to absorb the numbers offered, and consequently prices were easier by £1 to 30s a head, and for the poorer class beef there was a further drop in values. Fat sheep also had another large offering, 2875 being penned. A keen demand was again in evidence for all classes of ewes, values being above those of last week, while wethers could be quoted firm, although in a number of cases prices were above those of last week. Again the feature of the sale was the high values paid for fat lambs, with outside buyers operating. The demand was particularly keen and values were above those of last week. Well over schedule rates is being paid. Store cattle had not the offering of the previous week, although there were a few pens of well-conditioned good sorts which met with fairly good demand. Runners and vealers also received attention and made well up to late rates. Baconers and porkers showed little alteration from the recent high values, although porkers may have been just a shade easier.

With the large yardings coming forward in all classes, values will probably recede for some time. It is not unusual to see the yards well filled at this time of the year. FAT CATTLE

With another large yarding of fat cattle, it was expected that values would again be easier, and no doubt the prices receded from last week’s parity. The better’quality beef is commanding good prices, but the poorer class, which predominates, ts meeting with a weak demand. Quotations.
