PROM THE FILES OF THE ©taflo ©ail? TCimes DUNEDIN, MAY 10, 1865. The chief postmaster has forwarded to us the monthly report of the number and amount of money orders issued and paid to April 30 last. During that month 387 orders were issued, amounting to £1686 4s lOd, and 219 were paid, totalling £1045 4s 4d. The aggregate numbers since the commencement of the system are:—lssued, 14,349. representing £71,119 15s 3d; paid, 4594, amounting to £22,136 8s lid. Our report on the vegetable and general produce market quotes the following prices:—Cabbage, 2s 6d to 4s per doz; cauliflower, 5s to 6s per doz; lettuce. 2s per doz; leeks, 2s 6d per doz bunches; turnips, 2s to 2s. 6d per doz bunches; carrots, Is 6d per doz bunches; parsnips. Is 6d per doz; celery, 4s to 6s per idoz; radishes, 2s per doz bunches; parsley, 2s per doz bunches; sage, 2s 6d per doz bunches; potatoes, 5s per cwt; fowls. 6s per pair; eggs, 4s per doz. , Our Dunstan correspondent reports that a large quantity of snow has accumulated upon the ranges during the last few days. The storm commenced on Friday "night last and continued without intermission till the following Monday. The Carrick and Dunstan ranges are thickly covered, and so also are the Nobbies and Cairnmuir. The surrounding country presents a very wintry-like appearance; a remarkable change from the pleasant aspect which met the view previous to the setting in of the storm.
The crisis of the “Grey fever” is now over and has left little mark on the district, our Lakes district correspondent states, beyond a temporary diminution of the population. Miners are fast flocking back again, and many a rueful countenance is seen amongst those who have come back with empty pockets and are glad to get a wages job. Most encouraging accounts come in from every part of the Wakatip. and it is evident from the escorts alone that the average earnings of the miners are very large—not exceeded or equalled on any field in the world
