FUNDS FOR ROAD WORK

Warrington Group To Make Offer To Council The unusual course of a semi-official body offering to provide financial help in improving a public highway is to be made by the Warrington Improvment Society. In a memorandum laid before the "executive of the Otago Automobile Association last night it was advised that, as a sequel to the recent .fireworks carnival at Warringlon, the society had £250 which it was prepared to contribute toward the cost of improving the EvansdaleWarrington road. The secretary stated that a repoit on the road had been prepared by an engineer. The society was chiefly interested in the portion of the road nearest Evansdale, but if the improvements were carried out as far as the Rest Home two dangerous railway crossings would ,be eliminated. The estimated cost of improving ,the first section would be £7BO and for the second section £2720. If all the work was done, the society felt that the Railways Department might also contribute, the balance to be provided by the Waikouaiti County Council. The society' asked only for the support of the AA in making its request to the Waikouaiti County Council and it was decided that the secretary, Mr P. F. Harre. should join the deputation. “They are optimistic if they think much can be done with £250,” commented Mr G..W. Ferens. “However, it is a bad road and the work would only be earth-moving. I think we should at least give our support.” .
