Lorneville Stock Sale

PA INVERCARGILL, May 9. Values lor most classes at yesterday's Lorneville sale showed little variation compared with recent rates. Sheep were a little dearer, but although yardings were smaller in most sections, prices were generally on a par with last week's sale.

Fat Sheep.—A full yarding of fat sheep comprising mainly wethers was offered. About half was of good quality, the remainder being light and unfinished sorts. The recent rise in the export schedule for old ewes, resulted in a better market for ewes and tended to make wether values firmer than those ruling at recent sales. Butchers’ ewes sold from 45s fid to 475; freezing ewes, 40s to 425, with light-weights making from 36s to 37s 6d. Good quality two-tooth wethers changed hands at from 61s to G4s fid; mediumweights, 56s to 58s; handy-weights. 52s to 53s 6d, and light-weights, 47s to 49s fid. Heavy-weight aged wethers sold up to 68s; medium-weights, 55s to 58s. Fat Cattle.—A smaller yarding of fat cattle met with good inquiry and best soi ts sold at prices which were on a par with recent rates. The yarding included a fair proportion of cows, and the best of these made good competition. Very few prime quality bullocks were offered. Best bullocks sold to £26; mediumweights, £2O to £24; light and unfinished, down to £lB 10s. Best cows realised to £18; medium-weights, £l3 to £ls, and unfinished, down to £lO 10s. Good quality heifers realised to £2l, with lighter sorts selling down to £l6. Store Sheep.—The store sheep yarding was a smaller one than that of last week, but the demand was good. Full-mouth meeting with a ready sale. Full-mouth ewes made from 42s to 4Gs fid: best-con-dit.ioned l'.m. ewes, to 38s; lower-condi-tioned, 25s to 30s. Best-conditioned wethers sold to 50s, other good lots selling at from 44s to 47s fid; small, 40s to 435. Best-conditioned wether lambs made from 37s to 39s 9d; medium sorts, 34s to 36s fid; small, 30s to 325. Best ewe lambs, soid to 545; mediums. 42s to 465; small. 36s to 395.

Store Cattle.--There was another big entry of store cattle forward, the bulk of the offering being station calves. Values for these were much the same as those ruling at last week’s sale. The demand was steady for better sorts, but inferior lines were neglected. Best steer calves made up to £7 10s; good sorts. £6 to £7: smaller, £4 10s to £5 10s: culls, down to £3. Best heifer calves sold to £6 10s; mediums, £4 to £5 ss: small, £2 10s to £3 10s. Best-condi-tioned three-year-old bullocks made to £18; good, £l4 to £l6; best-conditioned two-year steers made to £l3 10s; others, £9 to £ll Best-conditioned two-ycar-old heifers were traded to £ll ss; good. £fl to £10; smaller sorts. £6 to £7 10s.

In the dairy section best cows sold to £25, other good sorts makitig from £ls to £10; mediums, £9 to £l4: and poorer and inferior, down to £6. Dairy heifers realised from £l2 to £l6. with poorer sorts making from £8 to £lO. '
