“TONS OF PACE”
British Rugby Team OBSERVER IMPRESSED “This side really impresses me—it has tons of pace, the players are in complete harmony, all unassuming and immensely popular,” writes a special correspondent Qf the,Daily Times from Nelson concerning the British Isles Rugby team. “It is difficult to judge from form at practices,” he adds, “ but they do not appear to be playing nearly their best side against the Combined team in their first match. While practising, their breakaway forwards always run with the backs and all are exceedingly fast. They only work with the forwards for scrummag'ug and line outs. Dr Karl Mullen is a most popular captain.” The British team is not unmindful of Otago’s strength, and the correspondent expects a test side to be fielded against the Ranfurly Shield holders. The tourists seem to be concentrating on a 3-4-1 scrum. They pack exceedingly low, their front-row forwards being of the short, stocky and powerful type. The backs are all very fast and beautiful handlers.
