Granddaughter Of Captain Cargill DEATH IN DUNEDIN Miss Catherine Cutten, a granddaughter of Captain Cargill, the leader of the pioneers who founded Dunedin in 1848, died in Dunedin on Monday morning. Miss Cutten, who was the youngest daugher of tne late Mr and Mrs W. H. Cutten, of Anderson’s Bay, was to have celebrated her eighty-
first birthday next week. Though widely known in Dunedin, Miss Cutten lived quietly. Her main interests were the Victoria League and the Early Settlers’ Association She was also a member of the Kno: Church congregation for many year and during the war she sent a grea number of parcels to Britain.
Miss Cutten’s father, Mr William Henry Cutten, came to Dunedin in the John Wickliffe, and set up business as a merchant and auctioneer. He was a member of the first Provincial Council, and Commissioner of Crown Lands. In the Parliament at Auckland, Mr Cutten represented the Dunedin country district, and he was also a member of the Otago University Council. He married a daughter of Captain Cargill in 1850, and died in 1883.
