The Netherlands East Indies Army, after nearly 130 years, will cease to exist after July 26, a joint IndonesianDutch communique stated today. Alreadv 15,000 Indonesian members of the army have transferred to the Indonesian Army, while 27,000 Dutch and Indo-Dutch are in the process of being transferred to Holland. The Dutch High Commissioner s office expected that the remaining 25,000 Indonesian troops could be transferred to the Indonesian Army or be demobilised by July 26. There were 120,000 troops under Dutch control in Indonesia when sovereignty was granted to the republic on December 27, 1949. t-v A spokesman of the Indonesian Defence Department estimated that the total Indonesian armed forces .would be 200,000 by the end of July.
