Plea To Governments For Protection Of The People’s Health
NZPA—Reuter —Copyright Rec. 9 p.m. GENEVA, May 8. Dr Brock Chisholm, of Canada, director-general of the World Health Organisation, today attacked Governments that “ allot billions for unproductive rearmament purposes” at the expense of the people’s health. Dr Chisholm was addressing the opening session of the 60-nation third world health assembly. He said: “ Both peace and security are illussions—dangerous illusions—when the majority of the peopje on this earth
are sick and hungry. We must do all we can to convince Governments that at the time when they allot billions for unproductive rearmament purposes at least a few more millions should be invested in the most precious values they- 1 have to protect—the health of their people and the health of their people’s children. No political and economic plans for a new world have a chance of success unless they include serious sustained efforts to ensure for everybody the enjoyment of the highest attainable standards of health.”
