LUCKY JACK GELDING

Tiberius Was Impressive Tiberius, who fought out a cloHe finish with Te Maru in the Trial Handicap No. 2 at Oamaru, is a three-year-old gelding by Lucky Jack from Arietta, a Nelson Derby mare from Queen’s Own by Adonis from County Queep, by Sir Hector from a Kentucky mare. He is a brother to Merrymaker and a half-brother to Demetrius, both of whom have been winners for O. E. Hooper, the owner of Tiberius. The feature of Tiberius’s performance was the gameness he showed when sent after Te Maru in the straight. He showed no sign of weakening and just failed to get up. Te Maru and Tiberius 'are two fine three-year-olds and they should eventually reach tight assessments. Speedy Pacer Phyllis Gold has the speed to win from her present mark, but on Saturday her driver saw the winning post too soon and she was left without a finish. Successful Driver. O. E. Hooper was well in the limelight at the Oamaru meeting, driving two winners in Te Arawhata and Rear Light, and a place-getter in Tiberius. By Emulous The Emulous colt Blue Pietro showed speed in the Juvenile Stakes at Oamaru to be one of the early leaders' and he shows promise of developing intb a highclass performer. Early Win Likely Son’s Gift would have been harder to beat in the Papakaio Handicap if he had not been required to change his line of running so frequently. The Gamble gelding looks like an early winner. Doubtful at Barrier Ascot has a turn of brilliant speed but until he becomes more reliable at the barrier he will not be a good betting'proposition. Returning to Form Norma’s Pride was in the picture all the way in the Innovation Handicap at Oamaru, and very little improvement would find the Desmond’s Pride mare an early winner. Broken Gait Krakatoa travelled on a broken gait in the Innovation Handicap and never looked likely. He is bred to win good races, being by Desmond’s Pride from Random, the dam of Vinceremo and Stray Shot, and with a bit more age on his side he should steady down and race in keeping with his breeding. •Gold Bar Colt

Flagship is a very solid looking colt by Gold Bar from Midshipmaid, and he will be well served by time. His Pfoi"i~nance was a good one in finishing third in the Juvenile Stakes, as he was among those who had to be checked when Tribal Song fell at the end Qf three furlongs. Others affected were First Victory, Adorian. and Alouette.

Brilliant Finish Hemisphere outclassed the field in the straight in the C. L. Ayson Handicap at Oamaru, but if Peston had not broken near home his task would probably have been harder. Hemisphere is a Particularly promising four-year-old by Springfield Globe from Kushanahi, a Grattan Loyal mare from No Fear, by Author Dillon from Ma Cushla, by Nelson Bin * gen from Ma Belle, by Abbey Bells. Light Brigade Colt The Light Brigade colt First Victory should get on the winning list before long. After striking trouble in the early running of the Juvenile Stakes at Oamaru, he showed a fine burst of speed to join the bunch about three furlongs from home, but the effort to get there told its tale in the closing stages. One of M. Holmes’s team. First Victory is from Erehom, by Travis Axworthy from Lady Rev. by Rey de Oro from Lady Pointer, by Logan Pointer from Lady Derby, by Rothschild.
