UNFORESEEN DIFFICULTY

Power Cuts And Radio Broadcasts PA WELLINGTON, May 8. The Director of Broadcasting. Mr W. B Yates, has asked the New Zealand Rugby Union whether it has considered the subject of power cuts and radio broadcasts if the New Zealand v. Britain Rugby tests start at 2 p.m.. as has been suggested. This was stated by the secretary, Mr A. E. Nelson, at a meeting of the NZRU executive. No decision had been made, said the chairman, Mr A. St. C. Belcher. The unions and the manager of the British team had been asked for their opinions, but no replies had yet been received. If the power cuts were still in operation, the public in some places would miss half an hour of play anyway, with a 2.30 p.m. start. “If the listening public wakes up to find it is going to miss an hour, there will be howls of protest from all over the country,” he said. “It is up to the broadcasting authorities to see if the cuts cannot be waived on test days,” said Mr L. V. Carmine.
