Pirates And Varsity A Challenged ANOTHER WIN FOR TAIERI There was no change in the positions of the three leading teams in the Otago Rugby Football Union’s senior competition as the result of the games played on Saturday. University A had a close call against Southern in the early match" at Carisbrook and the second half was well advanced before it scored and converted the try which enabled it to win by 5 points to 3. These two teams provided a brighter display than Pirates and Dunedin who met in the main match, a crowd of over 4000 spectators being treated to an uninspiring game, which Pirates won by 6 points to nil, mainly by reason of its strong finish. Taieri maintained its position at the top of the competition table with a comfortable win over Alhambra at Tahuna Park by 15 points to 3, and Zingari-Richmond defeated Kaikorai by 8 points to 3 at Bishopscourt. Union scored its first win of the season by defeating Port Chalmers by 17 points to 8. The games were played in fine weather and the grounds were in good order.
The results were:— University A 5, Southern 3. Pirates 6, Dunedin nil. Taieri 5, Alhambra 3. Zingari-Richmond 8, Kaikorai 3. Union 17, Port Chalmers 8.
