LARGE ATTENDANCES
Green Island Competitions THIRD ANNUAL FESTIVAL There were large attendances at all the sessions of the Green Island Competition’s Society’s third annual festival, which opened on Saturday. During the day, the national dancing and recitation sections were begun, and in the evening the Mayor Of Green Island. Mr J. Boomer, officially opened the festival. This was followed by juvenile vocal solo and choir competitions. Altogether, 590 entries have been received, this figure being a record for the society. In his opening remarks, the Mayor, who was also chairman for the evening, congratulated the society on its enthusiasm, and wished it well in the future. The festival will be held nightly until May 16. The judges are: Mr James Clark (vocal, choirs and pianoforte), Miss Molly Randle (elocution and character sketches), Mr Douglas Dali (plays). Miss Freda Padgett (stage dancing) and Mrs Millie Mason (national dancing). The official accompanist is Miss Valerie G. Wilkinson and Messrs Alan Dodd and Angus MgcMiilan are the official pipers.
