Basketball

Albany A Successful Some interesting games were again seen in Saturday’s basketball matches. ALBANY A v. HIGH SCHOOL EXGIRLS A The game between Albany A and High School Ex-Girls A resulted in a win for Albany A. Ex-Girls fielded four emergencies, so that the form shown was creditable. Ex-Girls opened the score, but Albany retaliated almost immediately. Ex-Girls returned to the,attack and added three further goals. Quick work found both sides scoring, Ex-Girls holding the lead of 5—3 after 15 minutes’ play. E. Armstrong gained possession after a smart interception by B. Hornal and scored again. Play was not particularly fast during this period, but both sides added three further goals, making the half time score: High School Ex-Girls 9, Albany 6 From the opening whistle in the second half Albany controlled play for some time. Ex-Girls held their opponents better during the following period, but Albany had a lead of 18 goals to 13 after 13 minutes’ play. During the closing stages Albany attacked strongly, and some clever work was seen, the team adding four further goals, the final score being Albany A 20, High School Ex-Girls A 13. Miss V. Corcoran controlled the game. UNIVERSITY I v. S. PATRICK’S I University I met St. Patrick’s I on Memorial Park. By fast, snappy work University succeded in scoring 11 goals before St. Patrick’s found the ring. The defence work of both teams was strong, and was a feature of the game. University scored two further goals before half time, the score being: University I 13, St Patrick’s 1 St. Patrick’s played with more vim in the second half, there being some keenlycontested encounters In the centre. St. Patrick’s scored first, but University retaliated a minute later. Bright work by University found the score 17—3 in their favour after 10 minutes’ play. The following eight minutes saw both teams playing at top speed, with a score of 19—5 in University's favour at the end of the period. K. O’Connell (St. Patrick’s) played an outstanding game in the defence area, while C. Pierson (University) was very prominent in the centre. Miss V. Corcoran refereed the game. OGHS A V. UNIVERSITY II In the game between OGHS A and University, OGHS A opened tne scoring, further goals being added before University found the ring. Up and down play followed, both teams attacking, but with School holding the better of the exchanges. The half time score was: QGHS A 10, University II 3. . The second half was more even, University exerting more pressure. OGHS A, however, had superiority in the iorward third, and held the advantage ir> scoring. L. Deacon (University) changed from the defence to the forward area, and although the tempo of play was increased the change over did not materially affect the result. The final score was: OGHS A 16, University II 6. Mrs L. McTaggart controlled the game. CYM V. OGHS B The game between CYM and OGHS B was one of the most evenly contested in Saturday’s competitions. Both teams showed accuracy in the goal-mouth and opened up play excellently. CYM held a slight advantage in the first half and succeeded in obtaining a lead of 11 goais to 7 bv half time. ' - In the second half OGHS B showed a slicht superiority, but could not take the lead. Quick passing movements governed the play and a good knowledge of courtcraft was shown. The final score was: CYM 18, OBHS B 16 Miss F M. Gibson controlled the game. MAC ANDREW A V. TECHNICAL A Macandrew A met Technical A on Memorial Park, the game being fast and open. Macandrew opened the attack ana scored early. Technical soon retaliated, and > smart exchanges found the ball travelling up and down the field Good defensive play nullified many attacking movements', and half time was called witn score 6—4 in Macandrew s favour. The second half found both teams moving briskly over the court and handling smartly. Opportunities to score were lost bv inaccurate shooting Macandrew held a slight advantage throughout. Time was called with the score being: Macandrew A 12. Technical A 6 Mrs P. M. Holley refereed the game. HIGH SCHOOL EX-GIRLS B v. UNIVERSITY B High School Ex-Girls B and University B provided a bright, open gams. ExGirls struck form immediately, and crisp passing movements found the forwards in constant possession of the ball, five goals being scored in succession. University then scored, and Ex-Girls added a further four eoals, making the half-time score: Ex-Girls B 9. University B 1 Plav in the second half was again of a fast, open nature, with Ex-Girls being more fortunate in capping off movements. V Devlin was prominent in Ex-Girls shooting aria, while S. Hartley (University) played strongly throughout and showed excellent anticipation. The final score was: Ex-Girls B 17, University B 4. Miss F. M. Gibson controlled the game.
