Apprentice Rides -Winner Rec 7 ,p.m. NEW YORK. May 6. Middleground today won the Kentucky Derby at Louisville by one length and a-half from Hill Prince with Mister Trouble third half a length away. The favourite, Your Host, ridden by Johnny Longden, ran unplaced after setting the pace. Middleground ran the 10 furlongs in 2min 1 3-ssec, which is only one-fifth of a second slower than the track record set in 1941 bv the champion Whirlaway. A crowd of 1,000,000 witnessed the race. Middleground's share of 121,700 dollars stake money was 93.650 dollars. He was ridden bv Boland, who is only the second apprentice to win the Kentucky Derby in 76 years.
