First Award Issued RETROSPECTIVE PAYMENTS PA AUCKLAND.. May 5. New Zealand’s first award for airline pilots has been issued by the Arbitration Court. It embodies the terms of settlement readied in conciliation between the assessors for the North Island airline pilots, the New Zealand National Airways corporation, and Tasman Empire Airways, Ltd., by agreement. Wages have been made payable retrospectively to April 1. 1948. The minimum salaries fixed range from £425 to £1625 a year. In the case of Tasman Airways, the scale is: Pilot under training, £425: second officer, £550 to £650: navigator, £825 to £975; first officer (grade II) £825 to £925: first officer (grade I) £975 to £1125; captain (grade III) £1175 to £1275; captain (grade II) £1325 to £1475; captain (grade I), £1475 to £1625. For aircrew of the National Airways Corporation the scale is: Pilot under training, £425; first officer, £650 to £BOO- navigator, while flying outside New’Zealand, £825 to £975; captain (grade IV), £BSO to £1000; captain (grade III), £IOSO to £1150; captain (grade II), £I2OO to £1350; captain (grade I), £1350 to £ISOO. When flying outside New Zealand, a captain or first officer of National Airways is to receive an extra allowance of £125 a year. Annual increments of £25 are to be made. Provision is made for employers to insure aircrew against death or disablement for sums of £2OOO or £3OOO, according to rank. Employers are also to establish contributory pension schemes.

On reaching 35 a captain who has served in grade 111 for 18 months shall be paid the minimum for grade II captain. The award will expire on October 31 this year.
