Ree. 7 p.m. SYDNEY, May 6. Burns. Philp and Co. made £302,734 net profit for the year ended March 31. The profit for the previous year was £288,123. The dividend is raised from 111 per cent, to 12J per cent., absorbing £250,000. The gross profit was £2,295,340, compared with £2,133,983 the previous year Depreciation took £208,533, against £198,780. The directors say that merchandise turnover rose, but higher wages and general working expenses more than absorbed the additional revenue. They say that the profitable operation of the company’s fleet presents a major problem, because of rises in operating costs and recurrent delays in Australian ports.
