HIGH TRIBUTE

Sir Bernard Dawson Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, Apl. 5. A high tribute to the work of Sir Bernard Dawson, who is to resign from the chair of obstetrics and gynaecology at Otago University at the end of next January, was paid tonight by Dr Doris Gordon, former director of maternity services. Since his appointment in 1930 to the position specifically endowed by the women of New Zealand, Sir Bernard had given himself unsparingly to the responsibilities of the sole professorship of obstetrics in the Dominion, said Dr Gordon. A forceful teacher of an ever-increasing number of students he had jeopardised his health by doing what few professors m the Empire did—supervising major - night emergency teaching himself. “At the cost of physical and mental strain, he has always been willing to co-operate on policy matters for Dominion obstetrics anywhere in the North Island,” Dr Gordon said. ‘ His resignation will be noted with regretfar and wide.”
