RIVERTON TASKS

Track Cutting Up AGANEV UNLIKELY STARTER Special to the Daily Times INVERCARGILL, Apl. 4. The course proper, with the poles 40 feet out, was in use at Riverton this morning but there was not a great amount of work and horses which had raced at Wyndham were restricted to easy tasks. The track was cutting up a good deal and there seems little chance of Saturday’s meeting opening on a firm ground. Visiting trainers on the scene include J. A. Wilson, G. Feilding, and A. E. Didham, with their, respective teams. Haughty Boa and Bush Robin sprinted five furlongs in lmin 5 2-ssec, the last half in 53sec, and finished together, with Haughty Boa doing much the better. Baygundi hit out well over a mile on his own in lmin 48sec, the first half in 52 3-ssec. The Riccarton ’chaser, Laindon, whose mission is the Great Western, was restricted to strong pace work. He is in solid condition* and is expected to make a good showing over Riverton country. Nullah was let off with an easy six furlongs. He will be ridden by H. W. Skinner in the Riverton Cup. Finigin, who strips particularly well, was let off with pace work. He hit the stalls when he jumped out at Wyndham' on Saturday and this prejudiced his chance. Gay John, a hack sprinter in A. E. Didham’s team, sprinted down the straight and handled himself well. He is a six-year-old grey gelding by Gynerlum, and was a recent winner at Oamaru.

Aganev Is unlikely to fulfil her Riverton Cup engagement. She pulled up lame after working at Invercargill yesterday and it is thought that she ricked herself. L. W. Hare had been engaged to ride her. Jimmy the One, from the same stable as Aganev, has been paid up for in both the Riverton Cup and the Pourakino Handicap, but the Cup race is likely to be his mission.

The only bracket on the first day nl' the Riverton meeting Is in the Great Western, in which the Hazlett stable has a bracket of four—Double Light, Kassai, Gav Music, and Waihopi. Double Light is unlikely to run. Gay Music will be ridden by W. Hillis, Kassai by B. S. Wilson. and Waihopi by R. J. Cochrane.
