RICE IMPORTS
Advice Of Allocation The Oamaru Chamber of Commerce received advice at its monthly meeting that licences would be granted for the importation of rice, dressed or undressed, from Burma or from any other normal source of supply, other than hard currency areas, to the extent of 100 per cent, of the value of licences granted from all sources in 1942. Mr R. H. Watson was in the chair, and there were also present Messrs H. C. Cameron. A. H. Wilson, C. Byrne, F. Edwards, H. C. Jeffery, W. C. Tritt, H. S. Stevens. J. Meilde and I. McDonald. The Oamaru Harbour Board and the Waitaki Electric Power Board advised that pending a reply from the chamber on the cost of printing a map of Oamaru tlie matter had been deferred in the meantime The chamber decided to defer the question until a later date. An intimation that he would not be seeking re-election because of pressure of business was given by the president, Mr Watson. Members expressed regret at Mr Watson’s decision. It was decided to advertise the closing of shops from Thursda" night to Tuesday during Easter.
