KEEN BIDDING

SEARCH FOR INVESTMENTS DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE The higher level of bidding instituted on the opening day was maintained on the Stock Exchange yesterday as buyers continued their search for investments. Government loans were in better demand, but in this case buyers were only interested at the closing levels of the old year. The buyer of Commercial Bank ordinary advanced his offer another 3d to 25s 9d, the seller asking 28s 6d. Brown Ewings were wanted at 565, and a special lot was sought at a figure several points above that figure without attracting a spot seller. Australian mining scrip was at higher levels, but sellers stood off and countered the offer of 20s 9d for Lyells with a bid of 22s 6d and the offer of 43s for Broken Hill South with a quote of 465. The only deal was a line of Woolworths, Ltd., at 24s—up 6d on the final business in December. More were wanted at the sale figure. DUNEDIN £ s. d. Sales Reported— Woolworths, Ltd.
