SEVERE EARTHQUAKE IN MANILA

Rec. 11.40 p.m. MANILA, Dec. 29. The inhabitants of Manila rushed into the streets at 11.30 a.m. today when the most severe earthquake .since 1937 rocked the city for two and a-half minutes. Some buildings were damaged, but no casualties were reported. The Weather Bureau said reports from other areas of Northern Luzon indicated strong shocks without damage. The epicentre was given as about 100 miles eastward of the coastal town of Baler. The bureau said the earthquake, which was of intensity five, put the seismograph out of action.
