INTO BASS STRAIT
Leaders In Sydney-Hobart Yacbt Race NZPA—Copyright SYDNEY, Dec. 29. The cutters Trade Winds and Fortuna, and the yawl Margaret Rintoul, are believed to be leading in the Sydney-Hobart yacht race. Early today the leaders were reported to be well into Bass Strait and making about three knots in a light southerly breeze. Yachtsmen believe that the crew of the sloop Ellida, which has not been reported since dusk on Monday, may be following the tactics of Rangi, which won the race in 1945 by standing well to seaward. The Tasmanian schooner Wanderer is also, believed to be well offshore.
