THE TIMARU REGATTA NORTH END CLUB’S SUCCESS The Timaru Regatta was held on Monday, but owing to the strong north-westerly wind it was possible to row over only a short course of little more than half a mile. Three Otago clubs competed, and North End had a very successtul day, winning donations to the value of £lB and two trophies for the Novice Sculls. Union (Christchurch) won donations to tne value of £26, Avon £2l, Cure £6, and Oamaru £2.

North End gained three first placings, two seconds and one third, and Oamaru one second and two thirds. All the other races were won by Christchurch crews. The Otago selector, Mr W. G. Glengarry, was present to watch the southern crews, three senior fours from- Otago taking part. The principal event of the day, the Senior Fours, provided a thrilling race between North End and Avon, the former crew winning by half a length, with Oamaru third. Avon lead for the first part of the race, but North End settled down to secure its third successive victory this season. Results: — Novice Sculls. —North End (W. Elliot st, D. Martin bow) 1.
