VEDETTE IMPRESSES

WIN IN CHALLENGE STAKES AT EPSOM Vedette fully justified the strong support for him in the North Island Challenge Stakes at Epsom on Tuesday by beating a good field of three and four-vear-olds in hollow fashion. Driven by M. Holmes, who won four races during the day, he is owned by Mr C. Johnston, of Christchurch, and trained by J D. Litten at West Melton. So far this season he has won three of his seven starts and been placed in the other four. His other successes were in the Weston Handicap at the Oamaru meeting when he beat Te Maru, and in the Dominion Challenge Stakes when he beat Springbok, Soangetaha and Morano. A four-year-old gelding, he is by Light Brigade from Queen Wrack, by Wrack from Entice, by Bribery from a mare by General Lincoln. His fourth dam is a mare by the thoroughbred sire Stepniak. Vedette is, therefore, a half-brother to winners in Democrat and Scott Wrack, although he looks as though he will go on to better company. He is a wellmoulded gelding and he lacks nothing on the score of stamina.
