“DRAMATIC” RESULTS
TREATMENT OF TYPHOID NEW DRUG CHLOROMYCETIN NZPA—Reuter—Copyright LONDON, Dec. 27. A new drug, Chloromycetin, is being used for the first time as routine treatment on the 16 cases of typhoid among members of the crew of the liner Mooltan, which arrived in London from Australia last week. s Today seven new suspected cases Entered hospital. A doctor at Greenwich Seamen’s Hospital described the results of the treatment with the new drug as “ wonderful.” He added: “It is absolutely dramatic. It brings fever down to normal inside two days.” He said that if the disease could be diagnosed early and sufficient supplies of Chloromycetin were available, it would probably abolish mortality completely. A Ministry of Health official said today that the outbreak of typhoid on the liner had been traced to two members of the crew, who were unwitting carriers.' They had been isolated and the ship further sterilised.
