£6OOO DAMAGE
FREEZING WORKS FIRE CARCASS BAGS LOST PA TIMARU, Dec. 28. Fire swept through a brick outbuilding at Smithfield Freezing Works tonight, causing damage estimated at £6OOO to a store packed with meat carcass bags. The bags were a complete loss. The Timaru Fire Brigade was quickly on the scene after the alarm had been given by nearby campers and prevented the fire from reaching an adjoining building packed with drums of oil.
