HOLIDAY VISIT

WELL-KNOWN NEW ZEALAND AUTHOR PA AUCKLAND, Dec. 27. The well-known New Zealand author, Ruth Park, arrived in Auckland in the Monowai today with her husband, Mr D’Arcy Niland, and three children to spend a holiday with her relatives in Auckland. They will leave for England in April. When her book, “ Harp in the South,” won the Sydney Morning Herald literary competition in 1947, Ruth Park realised an ambition she had cherished since she was a pupil at the Te Kuiti High School. A second book, “Poor Man’s Orange,” has just been published. Her husband’s book, “Gold in the Street,” received second placing in the Herald competition this year. He is working on another novel now.
