STATE AID TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS
Sir,—l wish to inform “Scot' that the documents pertaining to the legitimacies of Catholic priests and bishop* were drawn up by men who were no friends of the Catholic Church and so wished tb discredit its priests so they could establish a Protestant Church in Scotland. Protestantism first appeared in Scotland in the year 1525 (over 20 year* before John Knox became a Protestant), reaching that country from Germany, where it was being propagated by Martin Luther and his colleagues. Could Scot tell me whether John Knox’s name is on one of these lists, as he was a Catholic priest in Scotland until 1549? From what I have seen of the Scottish Kirk it practises anything but democracy. I wish to point out to Scot _ that at least 80 per cent, of the Catholics who are committed to prison In Victomand in Queensland were educated in .state schools, because their parents had neglected or did not have the means of sending them to a church school. lam certain that had all of those prisoners been educated in church schools the majority of them would not have been seen inside a courtroom. I advise ” Scot to read ” The Life of Cesare Borgia as this book tells the reader that this man was not as bad as he was painted by his enemies.—l am. etc.. Ex-Protestant. Ashburton.
