CHESS CONGRESS
FIRST DAY’S RESULTS PA AUCKLAND, Dec. 26. Forty players are taking part in the annual New Zealand Chess Congress, which was opened today by the Mayor, Mr J. A. C. Allum. Also present was the Minister of Education, Mr Algie. The president of the New Zealand Chess Association, Mr R. E. Baeyertz, presided. Mr Allum presented the Bledisloe Cup for the annual New Zealand Telegraphic Chess Championship to C. Bailey, president of the Auckland Chess Club, who received it on behalf of his club. Results:—
New Zealand Championship—First round: J. A. Moir (Auckland) drew with H. McNabb (Nelson), D. I. Lynch (Hastings) beat W. E. Moore (Christchurch), R. E. Baeyertz (Auckland) drew with C. P. Belton (Auckland), Dr P. Allerhand (Wellington) beat Dr B. Cwilong (Wellington), R. O. Scott (Wellington) beat D. C. M. Manson (Christchurch).
