FRIENDLY BAY
Merry-go-round Opened
The official opening of the Friendly Bay Improvement Committee's merry-go-round, combined with a gala day, was held at the Friendly Bay on Saturday afternoon. “ Father Christmas ” arrived by boat and landed on the bay shortly before 2 p.m. and made his way towards the merry-go-round, distributing balloons to the children. The Mayor. Mr M. F. E. Cooney, in opening the merry-go-round, congratulated the committee on the excellent job it had done in recent years by improving the bay, and in particular he mentioned Messrs C. Crisp and T. Self for their work on the merry-go-round. The Mayor, follbwed by “ Father Christmas ” and the bay committee then filed to the merry-go-round for the first ride. During the afternoon the merry-go-round was well patronised and 400 .children were given rides. It was mentioned that the merry-go-round would run only on days when the committee thought fit, and these days would be advertised. The launch trips around the harbour were also very successful and the day netted the Friendly Bay Committee approximately £BO.
