NEW TELEPHONE DIRECTORY
Sir,—The latest issue of the telephone directory prompts some queries. (1) Why is the paper a dirty white? (2) Why are the surnames and numbers still in indistinct type? (3) Why have Wellington and Auckland never had anything but black type for surnames and numbers when we have to put up with something legible only in a good light to those of perfect eyesight? (4) Why can a better directory not be provided for subscribers who pay £8 10s a year, when the Agricultural Journal, of about the same size, costs 21d a copy? (5) Why issue free elaborate pamphlets on art paper, many of them of little value, when the taxpayer who foots the bill gets such poor service?
The latest issue reeks of misplaced meanness and false economy. I would suggest that you publish photographs of the last three Dunedin issues and the latest Wellington one (August, 1949) so that all may see the shabby treatment we get.—l am, etc.. Disgusted.
