RAILWAYS PORTFOLIO MR HACKETT SUGGESTED The portfolios of Railways and Transport are likely to be brought under one Minister if the Labour Government is returned at the election. A hint of this given at Grey Lynn last night was confirmed later by Mr Semple. “ I think it is safe to say that after the election I may be Minister of Railways,” Mr Hackett said. He declined to elucidate. Mr Semple said when approached early this morning, “We have been talking for some time about having the transport portfolios under one Minister. Personally, I am in favour of it. It has been discussed by Cabinet. We thought we should not do it on the eve of the election, but would consider it immediately after if we are returned as the Government.”
