NOVICE CANDIDATE
EMERALD CHIEF HAS SHOWN ABILITY Emerald Chief, who is to have his first race in the second division of the Birchwood Novice Handicap at the Wairio meeting to-morrow, is a three-year-old gelding by Royal Chief from Killarney, by Paper Money from Maragosa, by Woodend from Rose Lady, by Rose Noble. Killarney was a winner when trained by W. Hancock, trainer of Emerald Chief, who will be raced by his breeders, Messrs A. J. Armstrong and D. I. Edgar. Emerald Chief has shown great promise in the little fast work he has had at Wingatui, and it is likely that he will show up at his first appearance. He is a member of the same family as Peony Rose, Sally Lunn, Defendant, Merry Lancer, Filibeg, Centurion, Pimento and Paprika.
Nominations for the Auckland Cup carnival are due to-day and handicaps for the Cup and Railway Handicap will be declared on Monday, November 28. A doubles totalisator will be installed by the Auckland Trotting Club for its meeting at Alexandra Park on December 27, 29 and 31. The totalisator will be a 5s unit.
