Ballochmyle’s Fast Sprint & FINAL TRIALS AT RICCARTON Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH. Nov. 17. The conditions were good for the final gallops at Riccarton this morning. The outside of the course and the plough provided fast going. There were some smart sprints. Ballochmyle was outstanding over six furlongs, while Pastel, Vitamin, Theocritus, Cipher and Jamell pleased over five furlongs. Aden, Apex, Hazaan, Robin’s Song, His Nibs, Western Winner, and Sweet Spray returned good times over half a mile, and Maryburn and The Laird over a mile. Ballochmyle created a stir with his trial over six furlongs on the plough. He began brilliantly, doing the first two furlongs in 23 2-sseq, and completed his task in lmin 12 4-ssec. It was one of the fastest gallops ever registered on this track, and it will bring him strongly into favour for the Stewards' Handicap. Maryburn ran the best mile in lmin 42 l-ssec, after doing his first half in 49 3-ssec. He drew right away from Johnny Peep, who tired. The Laird beat Golden Spa by half a length, with a gap to Bhutan, in lmin 43 3-ssec, done at an even pace. Peridot and Revolte registered lmin 45sec. Te Kooti shaded Broie, with Highway four lengths back, in lmin 45 2-ssec, while Primitive and Sally Gold were on terms in lmin 45 3-ssec. Elofa beat Langham in lmin 48sec. Radical and Count Bian took lmin 33 4-ssec for seven furlongs. Bowling Green was too good for Acme over six furlongs in lmin 17 3-ssec, Maunga Reka taking lmin IB l-ssec alone.

Jamell went well to beat Fine Night by two lengths over five furlongs in lmin 0 4-ssec, the last half-mile in 47 3-ssec. Vitamin moved very freely in lmin 2 l-ssec, the last half-mile in 49sec, while Blood Royal took lmin 3 3-ssec, coming home in 49 l-ssec. Hazaar beat Betula over half a mile in 47. 4-ssec. Apex shading High Spirits in 48sec. His Nibs beat Western Winner very well, Aden had Robin's Song as a narrowly in 48 l-ssec, with both going mate in 48 2-ssec, and Sweet Spray was four lengths clear of Trafalgar Day in similar time. False Step registered 48 3-ssec alone. Declare shaded the Lambourn—Sweet Abbess filly in 49 2-ssec, Penchant, Bobby Socks and Puss in Boots doing 49 3-ssec. which Sharessa equalled to beat Dark Courage by nearly a length. Night Ruler beat Eulogize and Robinfaye in 50 3-ssec, equalled by Fecket, Floral Flight and Viaduet. Swayup was under a pull beside Original in 50sec. Fast Flight took 50 l-ssee, Te Roa Maori and Preface 51sec, Defender 51 2-ssec, Reformed 51 4-ssec, Valley Gold 52 3-ssec, and Lady Coral 53 2-ssec.

Lord Moss and Beaumaris On the plough, Marut, after giving a start of three lengths, finished with Loye Letter at the end of a mile in Imm 42 4-ssec, Skyzami being beaten off. Lord Moss and Beaumaris did the last five furlongs of their mile in lmin 4 3-ssec. Fyxen and Autocrat ran seven furlongs in lmin 30 4-ssec, which Valid and Romantic equalled. Renowned and Distinction took lmin 32 l-ssec, and Open Range lmin 34 3-ssec. Magical went well over six furlongs in lmin 15sec, Espalier and Extra Flight following in lmin 15 4-ssec. Royal Scrip beat Trench Fray and Helio in lmin 16 3-ssec, while Placidity and -Entrancing went easily in lmin 19sec. Cipher and Theocritus were brilliant over five furlongs in lmin 1 2-sssc. the last half-mile in 49sec.

Excellency and Eriskay, two New Zealand Cup candidates, were mates in useful work, brushing home the last few 'furlongs. Full Play was again in bad mood, refusing to do his work, and eventually he ran home over two furlongs on the outside of the course. Cast High Drops Dead

Cast High went out to work on the plough with Open Range, but at the end of a furlong he collapsed and fell, dying soon afterwards from some internal trouble, as no bones were broken. He was a useful four-year-old, trained by R. B. Robinson for Mr P. C. Webb and the estate of Mr G. R. Hunter. He was due to race in the Suburban Handicap on Saturday. , , , . After Peridot had worked he was kicked by his two-year-old stable-mate, Pastel, on the off hind leg inside and above the hock, an artery being cut. It will not be known till later how his Cup prospect is affected. ~ It is understood now that Distinction will start in the New Zealand Cup. The Hob was scratched at 2.30 p.m to-day for the Stewards’ Handicap.
