SCOUT EXECUTIVE
Lones To Be Encouraged
Mr W. J. C. Daniel was in ,the chair at the bi-monthly meeting of the North Otago Boy Scouts’ Association on Wednesday night. It was suggested that more should be done to encourage Lone Scouts and Cubs, as the numbers in these services in North Otago were small. Commissioner W. H. S. Widdowson stated that all schools in North Otago had been circularised with information as to Lone Scouting and Cubbing, and this appeal had'met with a reasonable response. Further moves should, however, be made in the matter.
In reply to ari inquiry from Dominion Headquarters as to the possibility of holding the 1950 South Island Lay Workers’ Conference in Oamaru, it was decided to advise headquarters that it would be practicable to hold it in Oamaru. It was decided that a branch of the Baden Powell Guild be organised in Oamaru. Commissioner Widdowson said that the formation of the guild was the most important step taken since the inception of Scouting, and the outcome would be of great value,to the Scouting movement. It was decided that all troops be circularised to take action, and with the cooperation of their committees to check with Scout registers and forward names of old Scouts to the organiser. A report on the annual conference of the Dominion Scout Council was given by Commissioner Widdowson.
