EMINENT RUSSIAN OFFICER TO SERVE IN POLISH ARMY
Rec. 11 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 7. Moscow radio announced to-day that Marshal Konstantin Rokossovsky, who was one of Russia’s foremost war-time commanders, has been placed at the disposal of the Polish Government. Rokossovsky will serve in the Polish Army. Poland's President, Mr Boleslaw Beirut, asked for Rokossovsky because
of his Polish origin and popularity among the Polish people. Rokossovsky first came into prominence in 1941, when he recaptured, at Mr Stalin’s direct orders, the town of Istra, during the German attack on Moscow. He was one of the generals who had command during the defeat of the German Armies outside Stalingrad.
