WHOLESALE AMALGAMATION CONTIGUOUS DISTRICTS PA AUCKLAND, Nov. 7. Any assumption that the Local Government Commission was committed to a policy of wholesale amalgamation as the only solution of the problems which existed in various parts of the Dominion would be entirely fallacious, said the chairman of the commission, Judge Goldstine, speaking at the opening to-day of an inquiry into the functions of local authorities in Auckland and environs.
“ The task of the commission is not only to sift and examine evidence, but also to see that all the issues are fairly considered,” Judge Goldstine stated. “ The commission does not propose amalgamation for amalgamation's sake.”
