The Deputy Mayor, Cr L. M. Wright, left yesterday for Wellington on a business visit. He will return at the week-end. , , . ■ Mr W. B. Richards will leave for Wellington to-day to attend a special meeting of the National Council ol the Federation of Labour as the representative of the Otago Trades Council. He will return on Saturday. Advice' that he has accepted the appointment as warden of Selwyn College has been received from the Rev. F. W. B. Perkins, of the parish of St. Peter and Paul, Enfield, London, The present warden. Archdeacon L. G. Whitehead, will relinauish the post on March 31, 1950. . . The Australian Trade Commissioner in New Zealand. Mr R. Hazzard, left Wellington yesterday for Picton on the first stage of a tour of South Island centres arranged for him by the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation. Mr Hazzard will travel as far south as Invercargill, and his South Island visit will extend to the last week in November Mr V. C. Preen left yesterday for Wellington to attend a meeting of the Management Committee of the Research Institute of Launderers, Dry Cleaners and Dyers of New Zealand. Dr B. E. Montgomery, lecturer in entomology at Perdue Institute, in the United States, who is visiting New Zealand under the Fulbright Scholarship scheme, will not now attend the conference of instructors of the Department of Agriculture at Cromwell, nor will he come to Dunedin, as previously announced. Dr Montgomery has been unable to come south for family reasons.
