OLD NAVAL SHIP AWAITS FATE
An approach has been made to the French Government asking it to intercede with the British Admiralty before it carries out its decision to sink the old HMS Implacable. The Implacable, formerly the French ship Duguay-Troum was built in 1789 and captured by the British at Trafalgar. No decision has been reached concerning the fate of the old ship, as it is thought that it may not survive brief tow to France. The photograph of the old two-decker was taken by a Dunedin resident as it lay moored at Falmouth some years ago.
